Notes: A small time hoodlum decides to
pick up a pretty girl waiting in a car. She doesn't want him, because she is
waiting for her blind date, an older man. He climbs in the car and drives off
with her. She gives him one more chance to change his mind, but he wants to
go where she is going. Which is nowhere, because in the last panel she
reveals her true face... she is death, who was waiting to take away the older
guy. - Ger A. |

Death Finds A Way |

Notes: And surprise surprise... the text story in this book also features a different
death. This time a fugitive is picked up by a man in a hearse who turns out to
be death, looking for him to punish him for a murder he committed five years
ago. The illustration is probably borrowed from another story, but depicts one
of the most hideous faces of death I have ever seen. - Ger A. |

Notes: A card shark joins a
table of three strange characters playing poker. It seems they play for letters.
L's, A's, a B and an H. However crooked he deals the cards, he cannot win.
He leaves with only his H, but the strange men promise to collect their debt
that evening. As he tells his story to the barman, the strange men come in and
collect their letters... two Arms, two Legs and a Body... leaving only his Head.
One of the clues he should have seen, was that the three card players looked
like fugitives from Halloween... a magician, a zombie and one looking
remarkably like... death. - Ger A. |

Notes: One of the weirdest drawn stories I have seen in a long time. Sort of like Dick
Ayers in his comedy mode, but less polished. The main character is a comic
book publisher, making this one in another series of typical Timely/Atlas
topics. This publisher, who looks like a cross between Jonah Jameson and
Stan Lee has a familiar display of his books in his office: books such as War
Comics, Suspense Tales, Astonishing Tales, Amazing Detective, Mystic and
Agh!! on the door is his name and function in the company: Hendrix.
President. His problem is this: he is not liked by his staff. He has an office
flunky who keeps him informed about the goings on in his office. Apparently
some of the editors are spreading unrest. Hendrix decides to install listening
devices, so he can eavesdrop on their conversations. But as he does so, a
strange voice from the box talks to him. And starts to decribe his funeral.
Hendrix wants to know who this guy is. He feels the voice has put him to sleep
and made him dream weird dreams. But when he demands the man behind
the voice to come out, he is grabbed by a mysterious ghost and dragged
away without explenation except: 'you shouldn't have asked'. - Ger A. |
